Coming and going

Maid of the Mist boat tour - Since 1846, The Maid of the Mist has taken millions of visitors to the base of the American Falls and then to the basin of the Canadian Horseshoe Falls, almost under it from the sound of the roar above you when you get out there.
Tickets are $12.25 for adults, children from six to 12 - $7.50 and children under 5 are free. An elevator will take anyone in a wheelchair or scooter down to the loading area. If you don't see the elevator ask because it is not easy trying to hold a manual wheelchair back on the ramp that takes people who can walk down to the loading area.
These boat trips have been running for many years and operate like well-oiled machines. You are given a plastic cover-up so you won't get soaked, led onto the boat, and away it goes into the falls. The trip takes about 20 minutes and it is awesome in the true sense of the word. My husband and I do it almost every year and I've been on the Maid of the Mist in my wheelchair and on my scooter. Don't let anyone tell you, that because you are in a chair or on a scooter, blind or deaf, you can't go on the Maid of the Mist, you can...and you'll likely never forget it. Maid of the Mist cruises run daily from April (the date depends on ice conditions) to mid-October daily. For departure times call (905)358-0311 or buy your tickets and wait a half hour. There's plenty to see and the cruises are run so well we've never had to wait long.
