Welcome to
the Andrew Logan House

More than 145 years old and still beautiful

Located on a quiet street in one of the loveliest towns in Ontario, the Andrew Logan House, circa 1860, overlooks the scenic Niagara River, Lake Ontario and Fort George from the lovely terraced garden at the rear. A point of interest is that Andrew Logan is buried in the cemetery directly across the street. Also of note is the fact that you are situated right in the Old Towne of Niagara-on-the-Lake, not out in the country. Everything, the river, marina, park, hotels, restaurants, shops (many are not accessible), is within walking/rolling distance.

The house is smoke-free, air-conditioned for comfort and exudes ambience and hospitality. It has three guest rooms, one of which is on the main floor and accessible. The other two guest rooms are on the second floor. All three rooms have ensuites. The accessible room and the ensuite bathroom are small, please look at the dimensions given below. You aren't going to be doing any fancy wheeling in this room or the entrance hall but the house definitely has its advantages: location and the cook is a master chef.

Parking is along the side of the road but there are no curbs to hinder access to the sidewalk. A portable ramp is placed at the front step down from the sidewalk and a second ramp to access a small lip at the front door. Our hosts had to move a few very pretty planters to place the ramp at the front door. It's always best to inform them when you register if you need the ramps put in place.
The front door is 33" wide and the door to the accessible suite, named the Patio Room as it has access to a side garden patio, is 27" wide.

Bedroom
The room is nice and bright with a pair of windows almost ceiling to floor. It features a king size bed, two bedside tables, a mirrored closet, a dresser on the right as you enter the room and a second dresser with a TV opposite the bed. There is also a luggage rack. Two wall-mounted lamps are on either side of the bed and have twist knobs. There are open plugs for charging batteries if needed.
Although the room is spacious enough to accommodate a guest with a scooter, we found the current configuration a little tight to allow easy access to the bathroom, which is on your right. The space from the bed to the bathroom door is 32" but with one bedside table moved and the bed moved closer to the window you gain another 18". There is a space of 6'5" from the foot of the bed to the dresser with TV. The room is tastefully decorated with lovely faux finished walls, paintings and a beautiful wall hanging. The ambiance is one of quiet elegance.

Space into bathroom door
Toilet has no grab bar behind but vanity can act as lift, if needed.
Removeable grab bar into tub provided but no hand-held shower or grab bars. Towels low and close to tub.

Bump-out sink gives some footrest room for wheelchair user.
Scooter use could turn seat sideways

Toilet is directly across from tub

Bathroom
The door to the bathroom is 27 ½" wide (too narrow to take a large wheelchair) with a space of 62" to the opposite wall. There is a space of 42" from the front of the toilet on the right to the tub on your left and 50" from the edge of the sink to the tub. The sink has lever handles. There is a 16" vertical grab bar by the toilet and a moveable grab bar affixed to the outer edge of the tub. A small lip on the inner tub edge would probably allow for a bathboard. At the time of audit there was no handheld shower. Although the mirror above the sink is too high for a seated person, there is a magnifying hand mirror in the recessed cabinet under the sink. Towels are plentiful and placed nice and low. The bathroom is narrow, the entrance turning radius very tight. This bathroom is best if you can walk and stand a bit.

Sitting/Breakfast Room
The door to the sitting room is 31" wide and opens into a lovely, bright sitting/breakfast room decorated in shades of buttery yellow and white with a splashy red sofa, several side chairs, attractive artwork and flower arrangements. The dining table is situated in front of the large window. This room is available for guests' use at all times and is a perfect place to relax with the morning paper and enjoy a coffee. What could be better than having a chef as your host, preparing a mouth-watering breakfast to get you going for the day.
You can also enjoy world-class theatre with the famous Shaw Festival just a five-minute walk/roll away and you can reach the town centre with a short stroll/roll through the park. Shopping is hit or miss access in Niagara-on-the-Lake so it is best to just relax and take each store as it comes. About half are accessible. The area also offers numerous historical sites, estate wineries and an old town ambiance that brings visitors back year after year. If you love old houses, a roll around town will be an absolute delight. After 50 plus years of looking at the homes there, I still can't get enough.
