The Alexander Suite is the on the far right

Three rooms - one accessible ( Alexandra Suite ).

Located in the heart of Niagara's wine country, surrounded by vineyards and orchards, Carbonnel is a welcome oasis away from the hectic tourism scene. Niagara-on-the-Lake's Shaw Festival is just minutes down the road and the Niagara-on-the-Lake Golf Club Restaurant is accessible.
You can relax here and if you're using a wheelchair or electric scooter, there is plenty of room in the Alexandra Suite with a private entrance. There is a slight ramp into the door of the suite which is 36" wide located to the right of the house off multi-car parking area.
Ramped entrance to suite

The Alexandra Suite - This is really a three room suite featuring a bedroom with ensuite bathroom, sitting room and dinette. It is nicely decorated and totally accessible.
The Bedroom - The suite has a bedroom with a king-size bed and plenty of rolling room between the bed and the outside wall and the bed and the bathroom door. The bed is 27" high and is on legs to accommodate a Hoyer lift. The bedroom has a cathedral ceiling with a large fan up there to keep the air moving on hot summer nights. There is also central air and baseboard electric heating for added comfort, when needed. There is a corner cupboard for hanging clothes you don't want to get wrinkled and a four drawer dresser to store more clothing. An iron and ironing board are available for the asking, also a folding clothes rack is available for drying items you wish to rinse out. There is an electrical outlet on either side of the entrance door and enough room there to charge an electrical wheelchair or scooter or you can pull it up to the bed and charge it from one of the plugs near the head of the bed. The bed is flanked by two bedside tables with lamps that have rocker switches on the cords so you don't have to get out of bed to turn the lamp off or on, and a clock radio/CD player. A small refrigerator is located in this room for chilling water or wine or keeping fruit fresh. It is also there to accommodate people who need to keep medications cool. There is no telephone or TV in the bedroom. A small area towards the front of the bedroom makes great storage for luggage and extra assistive devices so they aren't in your way all the time.

The Bathroom - The ensuite bathroom has a roll-in shower, sink with knee room under it and a huge mirror over it that goes right down to the top of the sink so no matter how short you are seated, you can see yourself. The toilet has enough room beside it for transferring. A front transfer would not be possible. A raised toilet seat is available. The door to the bathroom is 32" wide, the toilet is 14 1/2" high from floor to top of seat and there are grab bars surrounding it. The opening to the shower is 431/2" wide and it also has grab bars for those who can stand to shower. There is actually room for two in this shower; it is big. There is also a skylight in the bathroom plus a light in the ceiling over the shower and lighting over the sink.so you can really see what is happening when you are in the bathroom. The shower will easily accommodate a commode chair or a shower bench and there is a shower chair with adjustable legs and a back available for the asking. Sitting Room - The sitting room has a double sized pullout sofa bed, a leather recliner that goes all the way back (some people sleep in a reliner due to various breathing problems or other conditions) and a television with VCR, DVD player and a CD player . Everything can be operated by remote except the pot lights in the ceiling that are controlled by a low dimmer switch on the wall. There is also an electric fireplace in this area and the room also benefits from central heating when needed.
Private Dinette

Dinette Area -The dinette area seats four and is suitable for snacking or playing cards and games. There is a selection of board games and puzzles in the room. If, for some reason, you prefer not to eat with the other guests, Lynne will happily serve you in your own private dinette, although getting to know fellow guests can usually be a real pleasure.

Main Dining Room

Breakfast - A full breakfast is prepared with locally grown fruits and vegetables and served in the dining room or in the Sun Room overlooking the gardens or in your own private dinette. Breakfast is served between 8:30 and 9:30 a.m. If you have any special requirements, dietary restrictions or food allergies please let Lynne know in advance so she can prepare ahead to make everything as perfect as possible for you.
A large garden out back can be reached through a wide gate just off your entryway and there is a small sun patio there as well, where you are welcome to sample some of the wines you've just bought or enjoy a cup of tea or coffee with cookies. Wine glasses and a corkscrew are available for the asking.
Having personally inspected the suite and using an electric scooter exclusively, I can honestly say that this is one of the nicest accessible bed and breakfast accommodations in Niagara. Lynne will do everything in her power to accommodate you and make your stay in Niagara hassle free and relaxing. Enjoy! - Linda
