Ramada suites

Ramada Suites entrance

Number of suites: 73 – number of accessible suites: 1. The accessible suite is Room 605 and is a non-smoking suite.

This is an all-suites hotel. Suites can accommodate up to six persons and there is no charge for children. There is a $10 per person charge for extra adults 18 and over.

This hotel is part of the Ramada complex that includes the Ramada Coral Resort Hotel (see above). The two hotels are divided by Belmont Avenue and joined by a glass-enclosed catwalk from the hotel’s third floor that crosses Belmont Avenue.

The hotel is three kilometres from the brink of the falls and the casino and is in close proximity to Clifton Hill’s entertainment district and museums as well as a variety of eating establishments from fast food to fine dining.

PARKING: There is accessible parking to the right of the main entrance, but the parking spots are not wide enough to accommodate side-loading vehicles. The parking lot is sufficiently large enough that you could park on the end of a row or perhaps angle park taking up two parking spots if you have a side-ramped vehicle.

ENTRANCE & DOORS: The hotel has a covered entrance and a double manual door system with large D-type handles. In between the double doors is a foyer with an abundance of tourist information, luggage carts and the entrance to the on-site Ground Round restaurant.

LOBBY: The bright and spacious lobby, featuring a wide spiral staircase, winds around from the front entrance, past the 47” high registration desk to the meeting and conference rooms. There are sofas and chairs and lovely ornamental trees throughout the lobby as well as low pay telephones.

ELEVATORS, HOTEL HALLS & ROOM ENTRANCES: The elevators keys, which are low, have raised numbers on them.

Once at your floor, the hallways are carpeted and are nice and wide at 63”. Room 605 has a 31” wide doorway and opens into a small sitting room.

SITTING ROOM: The outer sitting room is 13’ by 9’6” overall and features a double sleep sofa, coffee table and end table. The television is in a cabinet with tea/coffee fixings. There is a work desk with phone and dial-up Internet access and a lamp with a twist knob. The room also has a mini refrigerator with wet bar. The room is not overly spacious but there would be more room for manoeuvring if the coffee table were removed.

From the sitting room you go through lovely French doors to the bed and bath.

BEDROOM: Just inside the French doors is a low paddle-style light switch that operates the floor lamp beside the TV. There is a hall table with a nice full-length mirror beside it. The room is attractively furnished in a bleached wood. Two queen beds are set on platform bases. Between the beds is a night table with another telephone and clock radio. The remote control for the television is set in a cradle that is attached to the night table. A pair of extension lamps with twist knobs is affixed to the wall above the bedside table. An armoire with TV is on the wall opposite the beds. There is an armchair located beside the floor lamp.

The room temperature control is located next to the bay window and is nice and low at 20” from the floor. It operates with push buttons and twist knobs. A double open plug is located beside the armoire.

There is a space of 31” between the beds and 52” from the foot of the beds to the armoire. There is no turnaround room between the bed and the bay window or the other bed and the bathroom wall. A paddle-type switch 3’ high on the wall right behind the open French door operates two pot lights in the bathroom. Below the switch is a double plug outlet.

BATHROOM: The door to the bathroom is 34” wide and has a lever handle. There is a space of 7’ from the door to the opposite wall and 5’ from the tub on your left to the opposite wall. The vanity is on your right immediately inside the door and is 36” high, open below 27”. The sink has a push/pull/twist faucet.

The toilet is 16 ½” with a tank. There is a 2’ horizontal grab bar above the toilet tank and a 32” angled bar on the side. There is a space of 34” from the front of the toilet to the side of the vanity and 35” from the side of the toilet to the bathtub. A bath bench is stored in this space.

The bathtub is 16” high and 14” deep. There is a 4 ½” outer lip and no lip on the inner edge. It has a 2’ horizontal grab bar with a 2’ horizontal Plexiglas bar above it. The handheld showerhead can be draped over the bar but you would have to have someone take it down for you. It has a push/pull/twist faucet. Towels are placed on a rack 5’ high and a hair dryer is 43” high.

POOL: The indoor pool is not accessible, as you need to navigate down steps to the pool level. (It should be noted that guests at this hotel are also invited to use facilities in the Ramada Coral Resort next door, and remember there is a catwalk from the third floor.)

There is also a fitness centre and squash court in the basement. The squash court is not accessible, as you have to go down stairs to reach it. The fitness centre is open from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m.

There is also an accessible washroom on this level with a nice full-length mirror and three sinks set in a long vanity that is open below. The soap dispenser would not be within reach from a seated position as it is attached to the mirror over the vanity. You would need someone with you if you wished to use this washroom, as there’s not enough room to manoeuvre in order to open the door and exit.

The Ground Round has an accessible interior entrance from the hotel foyer and an exterior entrance from the parking lot, which has a 1” lip. The restaurant has a sports bar on one side with the lower level accessible. The restaurant is furnished with tables and chairs as well as booths and has a full menu of seafood, pasta, ribs, steaks, chicken and burgers, all reasonably priced. There is also an accessible washroom.
